Key text

“Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,3“Remember,Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.”

Isaiah 38:2-3

Idea 1

Walk with Lord in your life. He will remember you in time of trouble

Idea 2

Break the barriers that prevent you to worship a true God.

Idea 3

The future is bright for God’s servants.

IDEA 1

  • Hezekiah reminded God how he walked in the ways of the Lord, Isaiah 38:2-3, what would you remind God about your ways of life?
  • David is reminding us about the same idea in Psalm 34:5, “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”
  • We have witnesses from all over the bible Daniel, Elijah, Mosses……off course Hezekiah who is labelled as one of the greatest King of divided empires(Southern and Northern Kingdoms)

2 KINGS 20:5-7

Hezekiah trusted in the Lord, the God of Israel. There was no one like him among all the kings of Judah, either before him or after him. He held fast to the Lord and did not stop following him; he kept the commands the Lord had given Moses.7And the Lord was with him; he was successful in whatever he undertook.

IDEA 1 CONCLUSION

So be careful to do what the Lord your God has commanded you;do not turn aside to the right or to the left.33Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you,so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess. Deuteronomy 5:32-35

At the center of book of Isaiah 1-39, the main subject is the worship and trusting in the Lord to deliver us.

IDEA 2

  • “He removed the high places, smashed the sacred stones and cut down the Asherah poles. He broke into pieces the bronze snake Moses had made, for up to that time the Israelites had been burning incense to it. (It was called Nehushtan.[b])” 2 Kings 18:4
  • King Hezekiah was courageous and removed all places of worship in Jerusalem that were not glorified God. What are the barriers in your life that is stopping you to worship your God? Is it your work, marriage, family, friends? Think about this, we all have idols which are separating us from God, until we remove those then we can worship God in spirit and truth.

THE TOTALITY OF IDEA 2

Hezekiah was a well raised , credit goes to his mother Abijah because we know his father was one of the evil Kings. (We have influence in the lives of the people who sorounds us, be the change you want to see).

He was taught the commandments of Lord as passed by Mosses

You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,10 but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments

THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

According to the book of Isaiah 65:22,sometimes in our life we labor in vain because we do not serve God. The full chapter of Isaiah 65 is the highlight of the promises of God to His people. We can claim the promises too and make our life more meaningful, why should you labor and see no fruits, build a house and not dwell in it?

Isaiah chapter 1-39 is an example of the society we are living today, trust in our own ways and worship our belongings, success at any cost, corrupt societies full of evil rulers just like the days of Hezekiah who was surrounded by evil Kingdoms.

However, chapter 40-66 gives us hope that God will restore if we turn our ways. “I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me.” 65:1

IDEA 3-THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT

“The sun will no more be your light by day, nor will the brightness of the moon shine on you, for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.” Isaiah 60:19
